The photo above shows an apparent close encounter between a sliver of our solitary satellite Selene and the fleet Mercury. It was taken just after sunset on the exceptionally clear spring evening of May 6, 2008 in Southampton, England. Mercury is a little to the left and a little below the Moon. Like Venus, Mercury is at its brightest as viewed from Earth when in the crescent phase. It's on the other side of the Sun from us when in its full phase. Click on photo for a larger view.
Photo details: Canon EOS 40D camera, 28-200 mm zoom lens. |
